How Reflexology Works

The premise of reflexology is that specific points on the feet (and to a lesser extent the hands and ears) correspond to organs, glands, and parts of the body. Pressure on those points sends a signal that helps reduce tension and improve function in the corresponding area. It's a system that's been refined over decades and used worldwide as a complementary therapy.

Even setting aside the maps and theory, there's a more practical reason it works: the feet hold a lot of nerve endings and a lot of bracing tension. Slow, deliberate pressure on tight, knotted feet relaxes the entire body. Most clients report feeling lighter for days afterward, regardless of how they feel about the meridian theory.

Who Books Reflexology

This is a popular pick for clients who don't want a full-body massage. Maybe you don't love the idea of undressing for a session. Maybe you've got a back that's too sensitive to work on right now. Maybe you spend twelve hours a day on your feet at the hospital or as a teacher and your dogs are barking by Friday.

Reflexology is also a strong fit for older clients, anyone managing chronic illness who finds full-body work too much, and clients who want a relaxing session that doesn't require a lot of repositioning.

What a Session Looks Like

You stay fully clothed. Shoes and socks come off. The therapist sets up a portable reclining option, or works with a comfortable chair or recliner you already have, depending on your preference. We start with a warm-up of the feet, ankles, and lower legs, then move into the actual reflexology technique.

The pressure varies. Some points feel like nothing. Others feel sensitive, occasionally uncomfortable. That's expected. We adjust based on your tolerance and check in often. Many clients fall asleep about ten minutes in, which is fine, that's part of why people come back.

Aftercare

Hydrate. Walk slowly when you stand up, because you'll feel grounded in a way that takes a minute to adjust to. There's nothing else to do. Most clients are surprised by how much overall stillness one session of foot work creates.

Contraindications

Avoid reflexology if you have foot injuries (recent fractures, sprains, open wounds), severe varicose veins in the feet, athlete's foot or active fungal infections, or if you're in the first trimester of pregnancy without provider clearance. We'll modify pressure or recommend a different service if any apply.

Pricing

30-minute reflexology is $55. 60-minute reflexology is $90. Travel within our service area is included. Many clients add a 30-minute reflexology session to a 60-minute Swedish or deep tissue, which makes for a longer, more complete experience. Pricing details here.
